Embodied Awareness and Management

Harlem Yoga studio offers on-site classes for students, educators, and parents.
On March 2nd, 2022, Schools Chancellor David Banks outlined his vision for transforming NYC Public schools, prioritizing student health and well-being as a means to support success. He acknowledges student wellness, nourishment, and mental health as a fundamental need for student accomplishment. He notes meditation and movement are evidence-based and culturally responsive methods for supporting students, and calls for an increase in the usage of these methods across schools.
Harlem Yoga Studio’s programs are designed to expand New York City schools’ capacity to provide mental health support and enhance student wellness. By bringing research-based methods to educators, parents, and staff, our K 12 communities learn use mindfulness and movement to self-regulate, focus, and energize.
All programs are tailored to each school's specific needs and budget.

What are the benefits of mindfulness and movement?
Mindfulness techniques physically change the structures of the brain responsible for learning, memory, anxiety and stress.
Embodiment practices provide effective strategies for self-monitoring behavior and emotional regulation, helping students feel at ease, in charge of their body, and ready to learn.
Developing brains are more sensitive to the negative effects of stress, affecting attention and memory. Embodied movement combats these negative effects, while improving visual-spatial learning, working memory, decision making, and motivation.
Mindfulness and movement have been shown to help with many mental health issues and neurodivergencies, including depression, panic and anxiety disorders, addiction, sleep disorders, ADHD and autism.
In addition to cognitive benefits, a regular mindful movement practice improves strength, mobility, balance, metabolism, energy regulation and impulse control.
