As we kick off July, we are shifting our theme to Vitality or Virya. The midpoint of the year that kicks off vacation season with a (literal) explosion of fireworks, there is an energy to July that mirrors the vigor, and vitality of Virya. In Yoga Asana, Virya encompasses the physical and mental stamina needed to advance our practice. How do we find and channel our resources to hold the pose a bit longer, stretch a bit deeper, and try that next level of the posture which may feel a bit scary. But more than encouraging us to foster our inner strength, Virya embodies an ethos of using one's vitality to benefit others. It emphasizes the cultivation of energy and resilience not solely for self-improvement but also for selfless service and compassionate action towards others. In this month filled with trips, fireworks, and the energy of summer's beginning how can we sustain, and channel our vitality?
