Hi Harlem Yogis
We are gutted. Overwhelmed with sadness, scared. We are angry - so, so angry. We are numb. I spent much of my morning fielding tearful phone-calls and participating in multiple bereft text chains, while trying to gently explain to my 6 year old that while we had fought SO hard for Kamala to win, more people in the country had voted for Trump.
It's an unbelievably lonely feeling. But we are not alone.
Walking the streets of NYC this morning, I shared multiple sad smiles with fellow New Yorkers. I said "I love you" to more people before 9 AM than I do most days the whole day (and I am not stingy with my "I love you's").
Every year our November theme is gratitude, typically my favorite theme of the year. I was so hopeful that I could send a hugely celebratory message of gratitude this morning. It is devastating that was not to be, but I am so grateful that I don't have to feel this way alone. I am grateful for all of our HYS teachers and staff who work to hard to create a safe and loving space for our students, and for each of you who make up this kind, loving, respectful, & beautiful community. Whatever you may be feeling- angry, sad, scared, unsafe, numb, we are here to support you - to sit, to breathe, to move, or cry. To honor and validate those feelings. Let's all hold each other in our hearts today, and every day.
As Rumi says, "We are all just walking each other home."
