NEWS & UPDATES

Our theme for March is Svadyaya.

We truly believe that one of the most integral, and joyful, parts of Yoga is  fostering a spirit and practice of curiosity and exploration.    Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra says: “Study thy self, discover the divine”

By studying ourselves we become more aware of the behaviors and thoughts that may harm us, as well as those which serve us and bring us closer to connecting to the most essential part of ourselves – that inner light which we all have and share. When we are in a place of study: open and curious, its is difficult o also be judgmental.  If you are in tree pose exploring the imbalance, really noticing what you might do with your foot, ankle, or core muscles to gain more steadiness, your mind is engaged.  It doesn’t have the capacity to also dive into a negative judge-y dialogue of yourself or others.  This is true off of our mats as well.  When we are truly OPEN to learning about something, curious about things (or people) that we don’t yet know or understand, there is an element of space and softness, of waiting to learn rather than hardening into a position of right vs wrong, or good vs bad.  In that space of exploration –  real understanding and connection can occur.

Coming up  at HYS. . .

Yoga Nidra 3/19 – Divine Sleep Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation practice that helps settle the nervous system and has shown to be effective in treating insomnia, chronic pain, and other medical conditions.

Yoga & Gong Meditation  3/24  – Create space, connect with breath as you prepare the body and mind for a soothing deep relaxation with the healing vibrations of the gong, chimes and bowls.

Mindful Community in : Action:  3/26 –  2PM -5PM    We at HYS are committed to being a space where community can be built and strengthened, and where we can support one another both on and off our Yoga mats.  Each month in our  “Community in Action” Potluck  we come together and support each-other as we work to make our city, and country more safe, equitable, fair, and LOVING.

CHILDBIRTH EDUCATION

Our  next Childbirth Education Intensive is The weekend of April 8th and 9th .
This comprehensive weekend  course is for expectant parents giving birth at birth center, hospital, or home.  Geared toward pregnant women (and their partners), with desire for an interactive learning experience, who want to understand birth and the many topics surrounding it.  Discussion of pregnancy, labor & birth help mom find her own readiness and connection to body, and partners find a sense of confidence in how to support her.  Newborn care & breastfeeding topics will help parents to get a sense of what they can expect as they navigate through their first weeks with their newborn.
